Unlocking Salesforce AI: 7 Steps to Choose Your First Agentforce Project

Start your Journey on the Right Path

Salesforce’s Agentforce is redefining AI-powered workflows, offering exciting possibilities for automating tasks and enhancing CRM functionality. If you're eager to integrate AI but unsure where to begin, you’re not alone. Many companies find themselves asking: “What should our first AI project be?”

This article will guide you through 7 steps to help you choose the best AI project for your company and harness the full potential of Agentforce. By the end, you'll have the beginnings of a Project Charter to get you started.

Step 1: Assess Your AI Readiness with Agentforce

Start by reviewing your current Salesforce setup and AI capabilities. Has your organization begun using tools like Einstein Copilot, or is Agentforce your first experience with generative AI?

The introduction of Agentforce represents a leap forward. While Einstein Copilot handled specific tasks, Agentforce goes further by enabling autonomous agents to execute tasks, such as summarizing data, generating content, and performing specific actions based on user input.

Step 2: Identify Business Needs and Explore Agent Actions

Which business functions will benefit most from AI automation? Is it your sales team needing faster opportunity summaries, or your customer service team requiring personalized responses?

With Agentforce’s Agent Actions, you can automate tasks like summarizing customer records or composing sales emails. These out-of-the-box actions provide a quick win, allowing you to improve efficiency in key business areas. For more complex needs, Agentforce enables custom actions using Apex, Flows, and Prompt Builder.

Step 3: Engage Key Stakeholders and Clarify Topics

Bringing AI into your organization requires alignment with key stakeholders, including business leaders and IT teams. Ensure everyone understands how AI can support your business.

This is where Agentforce’s "Topics" come in. Topics are categories that help agents determine the right actions based on the business function. For example, by organizing tasks under topics like “Sales” or “Customer Support,” Agentforce can efficiently determine the most relevant actions, ensuring accuracy and focus.

Step 4: Review Available AI Tools and Build Prompts

Salesforce’s Prompt Builder is key to customizing the way AI interacts with your data. Thoughtfully engineered prompts lead to better AI-driven actions. For your first project, start with basic prompts that connect with out-of-the-box Agent Actions.

For example, prompts could instruct an agent to identify an opportunity, summarize recent interactions, and generate a personalized follow-up email. The Prompt Builder allows you to fine-tune these prompts for more effective responses.

Step 5: Define Success Metrics for Agentforce Projects

What will success look like for your AI project? It could be improving customer service response times, automating repetitive tasks, or delivering personalized experiences.

When setting success metrics, think about how Agentforce’s automation can boost productivity, personalization, and efficiency. Use metrics such as reduced manual effort, faster deal closures, or improved customer satisfaction as benchmarks.

Step 6: Estimate Resources, Budget, and Implement Standardized Actions

Estimate the resources required to get your project off the ground. Do you have in-house expertise to customize actions using Agent Studio or will you need external support?

Agentforce offers out-of-the-box Agent Actions, like opportunity summarization, which can be implemented quickly to deliver immediate value. As your team gains confidence with these standard actions, they can incrementally explore more customized use cases.

Step 7: Develop a Project Charter and Create Agentforce-Centric Workflows

Now that you’ve aligned stakeholders, defined goals, and explored the tools, it's time to formalize your first AI project. A well-constructed Project Charter will serve as your roadmap, including:

  • Scope of the AI project

  • Business goals and success factors

  • Required resources and budget

  • Timeline and phases of implementation

  • Agent Actions and Prompt Builder strategy

  • Metrics for tracking success

Once you have a Project Charter in place, your team can confidently embark on implementing Agentforce and AI-powered workflows that enhance productivity and decision-making.
